Our Values

At Sir Edmund Hillary Academy, our CLIMB values of Courage, Learning, Including, Mindful and Building are at the heart of everything we do.

They guide the way we learn, work and treat one another, helping every member of our school community to flourish. Our values encourage us to be brave, kind, respectful and determined as we grow together.

We believe that “Aiming High, Climbing Together” is more than a motto; it is a way of life. As we work towards our goals, our CLIMB values keep us connected, support us through challenges and help us achieve more together than we ever could alone.

Courage: to initiate and embrace challenge

Inspired by the life of Sir Edmund Hillary, courage encourages us to challenge ourselves and step beyond our comfort zones. We believe that growth happens when we embrace new experiences, take risks and persevere, even when something feels difficult.

If we never need courage, then perhaps we are not challenging ourselves enough. Just as Sir Edmund Hillary needed courage to climb mountains, we need courage to tackle new learning, face obstacles and try things that may not come easily to us.

At Sir Edmund Hillary Academy, we celebrate effort as much as achievement. We encourage our children to have the confidence to give things a go, even when success is not guaranteed. The greatest success is often found in being brave enough to try, learn from the experience and keep going.

By showing courage every day, we develop resilience, confidence and a belief that we can achieve more than we ever thought possible.

Learning

At Sir Edmund Hillary Academy, learning is at the heart of everything we do. We believe that every child can achieve and thrive when they are inspired, supported and encouraged to be curious about the world around them.

Learning requires dedication, practice and perseverance. We help our children develop the knowledge, skills and understanding they need to succeed, whilst fostering a love of learning that will stay with them throughout their lives.

We know that the most meaningful learning happens when children are genuinely engaged and motivated. That is why we create rich, exciting learning experiences that encourage curiosity, creativity and independent thinking. We want our pupils to learn not just because they have to, but because they enjoy discovering new ideas and overcoming challenges.

Every lesson, experience and opportunity helps to build each child’s personal ‘kit bag’ of knowledge, skills and experiences. These resources empower them to face future challenges with confidence, make informed choices and continue learning long after they leave our school.

By valuing learning every day, we develop confident, capable and lifelong learners who are ready to make a positive contribution to the world around them.

Including and Inspiring Individuals

At Sir Edmund Hillary Academy, we believe that every child is unique, valued and capable of achieving great things. We are proud to be an inclusive school where everyone is welcomed, respected and encouraged to be themselves.

We celebrate diversity and nurture a strong sense of belonging, ensuring that every member of our school community feels safe, supported and valued. Through kindness, respect and positive relationships, we create an environment where all children can thrive.

We recognise that every child learns differently and that some may need additional support, encouragement or opportunities to succeed. By understanding individual needs and removing barriers to learning, we help every pupil access the opportunities they deserve.

We are committed to ensuring that every voice is heard. We encourage children to share their ideas, express their opinions and contribute positively to our school community. When a child needs support to be heard, we are there to listen, guide and advocate for them.

Inspired by Sir Edmund Hillary’s belief that everyone has the potential to achieve remarkable things, we aim to inspire every child to discover their strengths, pursue their ambitions and reach their own personal mountain top. Through high expectations, encouragement and care, we help every individual become the best version of themselves.

Mindful and Reflective

At Sir Edmund Hillary Academy, we believe it is important to stop, think and learn from our experiences.

Being mindful means paying attention to our thoughts, feelings and actions. It helps us to make good choices, be kind to others and appreciate the world around us. We encourage our children to show patience, respect and understanding, both in the classroom and on the playground.

Being reflective means thinking about what has gone well and what we could do even better next time. Just like a climber checking their map on a journey, we take time to look back at what we have learned and plan our next steps.

We know that mistakes are a valuable part of learning. By reflecting on our successes and challenges, we become more confident, resilient and ready to improve.

When we are mindful and reflective, we understand ourselves better, support others more effectively and continue moving forward on our journey to reach our own personal mountain top.

Building a Safe and Loving Community

At Sir Edmund Hillary Academy, we believe that a strong community is built on kindness, care and respect for one another. We are proud to be a school family where every child feels safe, valued and supported.

We encourage positive relationships across our school, helping children to work together, learn from one another and celebrate each other’s successes. By building strong connections between pupils, staff, families and the wider community, we create an environment where everyone can flourish.

We help our children develop the skills they need to look after themselves and others. This includes understanding and managing emotions, making responsible choices, using resources wisely and developing independence. Just as importantly, we teach children to show empathy, offer support and care for those around them.

Being part of a community means working together through both successes and challenges. We learn to encourage one another, listen to different viewpoints and support each other when things are difficult. Like a family, we celebrate achievements together, overcome obstacles together and never give up on one another.

Through building a safe and loving community, we create a place where everyone belongs, everyone matters and everyone can achieve their very best.
